For a limited time, food lovers will have the special chance to try a smoked salmon unlike any other; the newest catch of Russ & Daughters’ Wild Baltic Smoked Salmon is finally here. (Devoted fans have been calling for months, waiting for the season to begin.) This rare gastronomic experience is available for a limited time only, so stop by the shop soon, or call us at 212-475-4880 to place an order, before it’s too late.

Prepare to be wowed by its elegant smoke, velvety texture, and champagne color. This salmon feeds on herring, a protein-rich diet that contributes to its lean, healthy body and signature hue, and that also provides an added bonus: an extra dose of Omega-3s. Wild Baltic Smoked Salmon is so rich and delicate that the Russ family likes it best accompanied by nothing other than a little bit of fresh black pepper.

Russ & Daughters is the exclusive importer of this salmon, from a small multi-generational artisanal smokehouse on the Bornholm coast of Denmark.

Here is what’s happening: HAMANTASHEN!

Due to popular demand, there’s a new flavor at Russ & Daughters this year: poppy seed. We’re also making our traditional favorites: apricot and prune.

Stop by the shop or call us at 212-475-4880 to order hamantashen for the holiday, or for any day.

Tablet had a hamantashen taste-test and ranked Russ & Daughters’ hamantashen #1. They said:

As Purim approaches, it’s time to pass judgment on one of the most pressing issues of the day: where to find good hamantashen.

Tablet Magazine investigated. A meticulous and hungry bunch, we ordered hamantashen from bakeries in six cities across five states, driven by recommendations of what different people claimed were the best hamantasheries in the country. The array of flavors and sizes that arrived boggled the mind: poppy, prune, apricot, cherry, and chocolate; crispy and chewy; compact and supersized. Dedicated to the cause, we tasted them all.

Our tasters graded each cookie on a scale of 1 to 5, higher being better, in five categories: appearance, filling-to-dough ratio, overall taste, texture and consistency, and how badly we wanted another. The judges’ scores were compiled, the individual scores were averaged, and we found a winner.

The results:

1. Russ & Daughters, New York. Family-owned and almost a century old, this Lower East Side institution is best known for its smoked fish. But it also sells all sorts of traditional Jewish sweets—rugelach and babka and macaroons and, of course hamantashen. We picked up a sampling and were thrilled with these small, soft wonders. A “sublime dream cookie,” one of our judges said.

Treat someone you love to the finest caviar - packed by hand, with the utmost care and expertise, at Russ & Daughters. Woo your sweetheart with any of our caviars, and ask us about some great specials we have for this holiday. For example:

Amur Schrenckii is a fine choice for this amorous holiday. Native to the Amur River, Schrenckii sturgeon are yielding beautiful caviar in sustainable conditions. The beads are comparatively large, with a bright hue, firm crispness, and perfectly mild kiss-from-the-sea salinity. This is an exquisite caviar experience for any palate.

Paddlefish is a wonderful and affordably-priced alternative. This cousin of the sturgeon roams the large rivers of North America, especially those in Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Montana. This roe most closely resembles Sevruga in its size and color. The small, firm beads deliver a silky texture and a rich flavor.

Russ & Daughters has everything you need for a sweet and simple caviar experience: blini, creme fraiche, mother of pearl spoons, and glass-in-glass caviar servers. Our malassol caviar is truly best unadorned - serve on a blini with a drop of creme fraiche, or enjoy all on its own. Feel free to call us with questions or to come in to the shop where we’ll help you right at the counter.

We also have lots of desserts for Valentine’s Day too.

Delicious chocolate truffles: dark chocolate with Illy Espresso and sea salt; dark choclate with single malt scotch ganache; pear and caramel.

Linzer Hearts: heart-shaped linzer tart cookies, filled with raspberry jam and hand-dipped in chocolate.

And, of course, what could be better than a babka, rugelach, or halvah — always delicious desserts.
