Each day this week, leading up to Pickle Day, we’re featuring different Russ & Daughters pickled products here on the blog. (And then we’ll be serving our Beet & Lemon Shrub at the Pickle Day festival on Sunday, October 17.)
Today: Pickled Herring with Curry, Medjool dates and Roasted Cashews.
Sweet and spice meet in this twist on pickled herring: above, a photo of a dish we created for the Russ & Daughters Herring Pairing. Our own pickled herring is served with a sauce of curry powder, lemon, sour cream, buttermilk, and pepper. It’s great on its own, and known as Curried Herring in the shop, but for a real treat, serve the Curried Herring with medjool dates and roasted cashews. It’s a meeting of both Russ & Daughters counters – Curried Herring from the fish counter and Medjool dates and cashews from the sweets side of the shop.
