The current issue of Edible Manhattan includes a feature about Russ & Daughters, and a Russ & Daughters Classic bagel and lox (this one with Gaspe Nova and scallion cream cheese) on the cover. The feature, “Back of the House: Russ & Daughters – Where appetizing is both an adjective and a noun,” was written by Rachel Wharton, and the photographs on the cover and throughout the story are by Michael Harlan Turkell. Both spent many hours in the store, talking to staff and customers, watching slicing, kibbitzing. The article is their peek into the “back of the house,” which, at Russ & Daughters, is “behind the counter,” and into the history of appetizing, family, and a New York City food tradition.
