Russ & Daughters: A Webby Honoree

June 10th, 2009 · 10:26 am - Jen Snow

It has been less than one year since Russ & Daughters relaunched our website and launched the Lox Populi blog.  We are excited to report that Russ & Daughters was chosen as an “Official Honoree” for the 2009 Webby Awards.

“Hailed as the ‘Internet’s highest honor’ by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile web sites. Established in 1996, the 13th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide. Winners are chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences a global organizations whose members include David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Virgin Group Chairman Richard Branson, and R/GA Chairman and CEO Bob Greenberg.

Of the over 10,000 entries submitted to the 11th Annual Webby Awards, fewer than 15% were distinguished as an Official Honoree. This honor signifies an outstanding caliber of work.”

We are happy to share this “award” with our designers at Curio, who submitted our site for consideration. We’ll be honest: we are still not totally sure that we know exactly what the Webbys are, or what this means, or what they honor.  But it is nice to be in such fine internet company. And, of course, it is an honor just  to be nominated…

For more information about the Webbys, read more from Brian Stelter at The New York Times‘ “Media Decoder” blog,  and Caroline McCarthy’s insightful summary/critique of the ceremony on CNET.
