Portrait of Mark Russ Federman by Laura Greengold

Painter Laura Greengold is responsible for a recent addition, on display in the store; a portrait of Mark Russ Federman, 3rd Generation Russ, now sits next to a portrait of founder Joel Russ (Mark’s grandfather).

Laura’s first solo show in New York is currently up at 33 Bond Gallery (33 Bond Street, New York, NY).  The show, titled “Morninghead,” consists of 10 oil paintings and is up until November 22.

Critic Debora Kuan writes:

“Greengold’s work traverses that twilight between waking and dreaming, a place that captures what Kafka called ‘a view of life in which life would both retain its ponderous rise and fall, but at the same time, be perceived as a nothingness, a dream, a hovering in the air.’”

Laura Greengold received a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1997 and an MFA from Yale in 2000. Her work has been included in several exhibitions (Headlines, Pierro Gallery in 2006; This Dream, America, Jeanie Tenglson Gallery in 2005, Recession 2003, Cynthia Broan Gallery in 2003). She was a freelance lecturer at The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and is the author of “A Moving Conversation“, Philip Guston: A New Alphabet. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
